ED drugs – details, FDA approved and documented side effects
ED drugs like, all other conventional drugs, have side effects. This is the flip side of the development of medical science over the last years. There is no escape from. See it this way: whatever you put in your mouth is bound to have some affect on you. Natural products like home cooked have a positive affect and provide nutrition necessary for maintaining health. Foreign substances including ED drugs cannot be considered as natural harmless substances. These drugs are effective but the treatment has a cost other than what you pay for buying them. The cost that you pay is the side effects that you are likely to experience. The risk of side effects is more when these drugs are taken in an overdose. The risk of overdose, on the other hand, is more in ED drugs as these treat erectile dysfunction only temporarily. A man’s desire to have more sex can lead to an overdose.
Many people take the FDA approval to be a guarantee that prescribed ED drugs are absolutely safe. Nothing could be further from truth than this. Medication side effects are not a new thing. They are all over the place. Most of the prescription medicines, including ED drugs, have information in the box that, along with dosage information also has a list of side effects observed in clinical trials. It is another thing that the side effects are difficult for the patient to understand as these are usually explained in scientific terminology and often in fine print. It is the same with ED drugs. All ED pills too have side effects that patients of erectile dysfunction must be aware of. The most popular medicine for erectile dysfunction is Viagra or slidenafil. The other two that are commonly prescribed are vardenafil (Levitra) and tadalafil (Cialis). All three must be taken under supervision of a doctor to avoid side effects.
ED medication side effects vary with each drug. For example, the most famous of all three ED drugs, Viagra, causes headaches, flushing, nasal congestion and nausea and abnormal vision. Vardenafil (Levitra) has similar side effects along with body aches, dyspepsia and increased blood levels of muscle enzyme known as creatine kinase.
The third of the commonly prescribed ED drugs, tadalafil too has the same side effects with varying degrees. Besides these mild side effects, all three have some severe side effects as well. These include abnormally low blood pressure and priapism. Priapism is condition in which the penis is continually erect. It is usually painful and seldom with sexual arousal.
Another thing that one has to be aware of is the interaction of conventional drugs with other medications that you may be taking. Medication side effects are one of the most common reasons why alternative therapies are becoming popular again. Just like any other conventional medication, ED drugs should never be taken without consulting a doctor.
