ED pills that are FDA approved
ED pills have gained popularity after FDA approvals. As slidenafil (Viagra) was the first among the ED pills approved by the regulatory authority, it became the most popular. Viagra retains that popularity and we talk of ED pills most people still think of Viagra. What is not widely known that there are also some other ED pills that have been approved by the FDA in United States and are being prescribed by doctors or patients with erectile dysfunction. Vardenafil (Levitra) was the second oral medicine approved by the FDA for treatment of erectile dysfunction. Similar to slidenafil, this drug also increases blood supply to the penis. As it also restricts outflow of blood from the penis it can cause erection and effective penetration. Tadalafil (Cialis) is the third oral pill that was approved by the FDA. It also has almost similar effects on sexual functioning of men and leads to erection and penetration.
These three FDA approved ED pills are the mainstay of oral treatment of erectile dysfunction. Besides oral medication, there are intra-cavernosal injections, vacuum devices and intra-urethral suppositories that are commonly used for treating erectile dysfunction. However, erectile dysfunction is considered to be more of a psychological than physiological problem. The penis is reflexive and psychogenic in nature and responds very quickly to touch and erotic stimuli. However, thoughts and feelings in a man’s mind can inhibit his ability to attain an erection despite stimulation. Anxiety is one of the major causes of erectile dysfunction and in many cases anxiety medication can effectively cure erectile dysfunction.
Most treatments for erectile dysfunction are temporary in nature and that includes ED pills. These, like topical creams, suppositories and injections, have to be taken every time before sexual activity. This can sometimes result in an overdose. Despite FDA approvals, conventional medications are known for their side effects, especially if there is an overdose.
Folk medicine and herbal preparations were the mainstay of ED treatment before ED pills came on the scene. That emotions like anxiety can affect a man’s sexual performance were known to humanity even thousands of years ago is reflected in folk medicine. Many herbal preparations affect the human mind in the same manner that modern anxiety medication does.
As stated earlier, ED pills are simply stop gap arrangements and allow sexual activity for the time being. However, if hormonal insufficiency is identified as the cause of erectile dysfunction then the problem can be permanently cured with hormonal supplementation. The hormone involved in this case is testosterone, the potent androgenic hormone produced chiefly by the testes.
Occasional erectile dysfunction is normal even in healthy men. This does not require anxiety medication or any other treatment. Remember that anything that goes inside your body has a positive or negative affect on body functioning. ED pills, being foreign substances, are liable to have an adverse affect, especially if there is an overdose: deliberate or accidental.
