ED Treatment
Herbal and Conventional ED Treatment
Ed Treatment or treatment for erectile dysfunction does not involve only the treatment of the physiological state of a man. It is as much about treating his psychological state as it is about treating his physical state. In fact, it is the psychological aspect of ED treatment that is always addressed first. Medication is first prescribed to address mental issues regardless of the fact whether it is ED treatment or treatment for premature ejaculation. Basically penile erection is considered to be psychogenic and reflexive in nature.
That means that erection can result from both touch and emotional or erotic stimulants. Before any treatment can be prescribed for erectile dysfunction, it is imperative to evaluate the condition. Evaluation involves understanding three things about the problem: 1) the presence or absence of nocturnal erections, 2) lazy erections 3) loss of erection earlier than expected. Treatment is then based on the cause of the problem. Psychological causes may include thoughts and feelings that inhibit erection and penetration. Physical causes may include disturbances in levels of the sex hormone, namely testosterone. Till slidenfil (Viagra) arrived on the scene, ED treatment was mainly centered on folk medicine, controversial treatments and products that allegedly enhanced sexual performance.
If the cause of the problem is psychological, ED treatment involves a psychotherapist who first identifies agents that cause stress and tries to remove them with what is commonly known as talk therapy. It has also been observed that inert medicine plays a placebo effect in treatment of psychological causes of erectile dysfunction. Where the cause is hormonal imbalance, ED treatment involves testosterone supplements to make up for lack of the hormone. If hormonal deficiency is ruled out, then the problem is normally found in lack of blood supply to the penis. This condition si mostly associated with prevalence of diabetes and/or old age.
Herbs like ginseng root have been used in ED treatment since ages. Saw palmetto, on the other hand, has been found to work well in prostrate related erectile dysfunction. Herbal erectile dysfunction treatment is a safer alternative to conventional medication as it has little or no side effect however but not backed by scientific research.
Horny goat weed (Epimedium grandiflorum) is another herb that has been a major constituent of herbal ED treatment. This herb stimulates the testes to produce more testosterone and is claimed to be effective in restoring hormonal balances. Most other treatments like oral tablets, topical creams, vacuum pumps and injectable drugs are at the best temporary treatments.
Regardless of FDA approval, medication for erectile dysfunction has serious side effects. In most cases the problem is identified as a psychological state rather than physiological. ED treatment is possible, in most cases, by achieving a positive frame of mind and seeking the help of your partner rather than exposing yourself to risks of side effects.
