Medication
Medication - Do you really need ED drugs?
Medication for erectile dysfunction need not be the first thing in your mind. Rather, medication and ED drugs should be the last solution that you should look at. And this is not without reason too. First and foremost, consider that occasional problems with achieving an erection are common with men of all ages. This is mostly due to your thoughts and feelings, especially when in a state of anxiety. Anxiety works against stimulation, which means that even when stimulated by touch and erotica, a man suffering from anxiety is not able to reach an erection and penetrate. This may be due to transient anxiety or anxiety disorders. In the event of anxiety disorders, psychiatric treatment is called for and who may or may not prescribe anti anxiety medication. Secondly, ED may be due to certain disease, not necessarily related to his sexual organs that a man may be suffering from. Benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) or prostate enlargement, for example, can greatly affect a man’s capacity to gain and maintain an erection. The prostate gland is situated near the urethra and encircles it. Its enlargement can cause erectile dysfunction Medication, in this case has to be directed to treat the underlying disease.
Thirdly, age works against a man’s sex drive as well as ability to achieve an erection. There is no specific age when this may happen. Many men do not suffer from erectile dysfunction even till their seventies while some face problems much earlier. ED drugs may be effective in such cases but it should be remembered that such medication is only temporary in nature and not a solution. Fourthly, erectile dysfunction may due to low level of the male sex hormone, testosterone. This necessitates hormone supplementation and the doctor will prescribe appropriate medication to increase hormonal levels in the body.
These are just four examples in which medication may or may not be required for men suffering from erectile dysfunction. There may be some other cases in which medication for achieving an erection may be required. There is a lot of misconception regarding ability to maintain an erection. Recreational use of ED drugs too cannot be ruled out. Erection is psychogenic and reflexive in nature. The ability to maintain an erection for long has nothing to so with a man’s overall health status. Just as the penis responds easily to stimulation, it can lose its firmness simply due to other thoughts entering the mind.
Understanding the role played by your thoughts and feelings and sex hormones can help a lot to understand erectile dysfunction. Identifying the cause is of utmost importance before seeking treatment. A vast majority of men suffer from erectile dysfunction due to an underlying psychological cause. Medication, if required, should be taken only on a physician, recommendation to avoid side effects.
